24 Days of December Sun: Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat

During our roadtrip, we encountered the rare and often elusive Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. This rare beast is a sight and sound to behold.

For one leg of our journey, two females drove a combined 1,000 horsepower at totally legal speeds. I was in command of the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and my compatriot, Kristen Hall-Geisler of Carsplaining, was at the wheel of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350.

Our orange blurs of speed were heaven on earth, but the Hellcat… well, it was out front.

However powerful the Hellcat is, it doesn’t drive like its powerful. It drives smoothly and swiftly, but subtly. Until you put that sucker into its top mode and slam on the gas.

The 707 horsepower, 6.2 liter V8 HEMI engine puts out a supercharged purr. Connected to it is a super silky Torqueflite 8-Speed automatic HP90 transmission.

Putting the accelerator down unleashes the beast and, all of a sudden, you’re at the horizon.

While powerful, it was comfortable. The heated front seats were well bolstered and easy to find a good spot.

Ours came with the Customer Preferred Package that includes Harman Kardon audio with 19 premium speakers and a subwoofer, along with some aesthetics and floor mats.

The better part was the P Zero Summer Tires that stuck to the ground like glue.

Which is why you pick up this $72,225 behemoth for the road. Its why you don’t mind paying the $1,700 gas guzzler tax.

Because the 2016 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is just that good. Because #Hellcat.
