At the end of February 2022, the winners of the new Formula Woman racing series will be awarded McLaren GT4 race cars. The series, which starts with the UK GT Cup championship in 2022, is a new televised competition supporting women in racing.

“We are delighted … to support the Formula Woman initiative with our McLaren GT4 products,” said Danny Buxton, Head of McLaren Customer Racing and Motorsports. “This Championship is an established part of the UK motorsport scene and continues to grow in stature and popularity. We wish the Formula Woman program all the very best for the season ahead.”

Women who submit applications will go through a series of online assessments before heading to on-track assessments. On-track assessments will be televised, as will the final championship rounds in February 2022.

“We have had an amazing response so far,” Graeme Glew, CEO of Formula Woman, commented. “But, obviously we have to be aware of the current situation the world is in. The timescales will remain fluid as the country battles the pandemic.”

Winners of the 2022 Formula Woman championship will receive a McLaren GT4 race car. The GT4 is a full-competition spec variant of the 570S dubbed the 620R. Powered by a 3.8L, twin-turbocharged McLaren V8, the GT4 puts 612Hp to the ground. McLaren kitted it with a unique front splitter, floor assembly, and front single dive planes, and an adjustable rear wing. Because of its intended uses, it also comes standard with an FIA-approved roll cage, fuel cell, extinguisher, and rain light.

“To receive the support from McLaren is incredible,” Glew concluded. “The prize [offered to] winners is a fantastic opportunity to compete in a very successful series with one of the most successful race car manufacturers in the world.”

While application submissions aren’t open quite yet, drivers and teams can reach out to the competition to note their interest.

“I would encourage you to register and take part,” said Natasha Firman, the 2004 Formula Woman winner. “It was a fabulous opportunity for me and will be for you too.”
